How do I arrange a policy?

You can arrange pet insurance via our website or over the phone. It will take less than a minute to complete the basic quote information for your dog. If you would like to cover your dog’s pre-existing medical conditions please also complete the online medical screening process. Once both parts of the quote have been completed choose your cover levels and proceed to the checkout. Your policy documents will be emailed to you once you have made your payment.



What information will I need to insure my dog?

To get a quote with K9 Pet Insurance you will be expected to know the age and the breed(s) of your dog. If you are not aware of the exact age of your dog (often the case when dogs are purchased from a shelter) please estimated their age, in whole years. You will also be expected to know the price paid for your dog and which vet they are registered with. If you intend to cover your dog’s pre-existing medical conditions you will also be expected to know your dog’s medical history, including any past surgeries or treatments.



Is there a maximum or a minimum age for dog insurance?

The minimum age for dog insurance is 8 weeks. Where possible K9 Pet Insurance avoid placing a maximum age limit on policies but it may be necessary to impose a restriction on a breed by breed basis. 



Are there any breeds you do not insure?

Regrettably it is not possible at this time to insure every breed of dog. A list of these excluded breeds can be found here.



Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?

Yes. K9 Pet Insurance is one of only a small number of pet insurance providers who provide screening for pre-existing medical conditions. If you want to cover your dog’s pre-existing medical conditions please answer the online medical screening questions. All cover decisions are subject to limits imposed by our underwriters and may vary by breed.



Does my policy include dental cover?

Our Gold policy includes damage to your dog's teeth up to £1,000 per annum caused by an accident. This does not include routine dental care or treatment. 



Will the vet be paid directly for any treatment costs?

Claim payments will be handled by the underwriter of your policy. If your vet is happy to deal directly with the underwriter then payments can be made directly. Where you have had to pay for treatment yourself, provided this falls within the policy boundaries you can claim the costs back from the underwriter less any excess.



What does lifetime pet insurance cover mean?

Lifetime cover is a type of annual policy offered by many insurance brokers. In practice the premium you pay is typically more than would be charged for a standard policy of 12 months because, in return for remaining with them, the insurer is extending your cover to provide protection against reoccurrence of medical conditions or illnesses or accidents your dog incurred whilst covered by them in previous years. Routinely these conditions would be excluded were you to move to a new insurer, however with the advent of medical screening it is now possible to pay the appropriate amount for the cover required and include pre-existing medical conditions. 



Can I pay for my pet insurance policy in instalments?

Yes. Your dog insurance policy from K9 Pet Insurance can be paid in instalments. Our quotations demonstrate the cost on the basis of 12 equal monthly instalments. Simply select the monthly instalment option at the checkout.



How can I change the start date for my pet insurance policy?

How do I make a claim?

In the first instance please phone 0300 000 000 and our claims team can assist you from there. The policy wording carries stipulations regarding the time limits of claim notifications but in general the sooner you contact us the greater the reassurance we can provide. 



How much excess will I pay?

You have the ability to choose your excess at the commencement of your policy between £50 and £500.
